CHICAGO – The long-standing battle between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Kevin Trudeau continued as another ruling was handed down on April 16 by Illinois U.S. District Court Judge Robert W. Gettleman. Sprouting from a 2004 order that Trudeau was in contempt of court, then to a court of appeals, and now back down to the trial court, this new ruling tacked on more mandates to Trudeau’s original orders.
The new case looks back at two previous court decisions involving the FTC and Trudeau, from August. In one cause, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals had affirmed an earlier decision that Trudeau be barred from participating in infomercials for books and publications if they misrepresented the content of the book. The Court of Appeals stated that Trudeau violated that order with respect to a book he published, “Weight Loss Cures,” when he “induced consumers to purchase the book on false hopes and assumptions … Trudeau … outright lied.”
